What is Important About Work? New Career Change Academy

The idea of work is a work in progress, is it not?

We once thought of work as drudgery, that had to be performed, it was routine and mainly unfulfilling for the soul. Just ask your parents or grand parents how they felt about work?

The idea of work is evolving, and now I believe, we are at a point where the notion that work not only can be fun/enjoyable, but is supposed to be fun/enjoyable. One of my favorite quotes about this is
Confucious: Choose a job you love and you will never work another day in your life.

I often say that your true work (the work that you and only YOU came here to do is a labor of love). It comes from love and is created from love and it is something you love to do. You simply must do IT.

For me, that is writing (and teaching). I cannot not do it. It comes through me, as an expression of who I am.

It is what I am doing when time flies by, and allows me to share my inner self. This is the kind of WORK that I am committed to doing, and have recently launched a new program to help others find the work that it theirs to do and to help them to do it.

The world needs more people working from their Presence and Power. This will bring a SHIFT in a big and fast way.
I have a personal goal to personally help 333 people this year, and so I have been getting many inspiraitons on how to do that.

If you know anyone who could benefit from my work of helping others discover their perfect work/soul's purpose, please share my link with them:

So, in the end, I feel the work we do that allows us to share who we are at our deepest level is an extremely important part of our shift. That is why SIA has the Workplace Revolution.
What is important to you about the work  that you do?

You are doing  a great job! All the best in your continued growth.

I absolutely agree, however, I believe that any job we choose to accept should be filled with these two characteristics.  I know that there are jobs that people do just for the money until something better/more desirable comes along.  What if the idea you presented could be a choice in the workplace on the way to what you love?  Fun and enjoyment are a choice…correct?  Is it possible that finding fun and enjoyment it what you do “for the money” could get you ready for what you love?  Kinda like a training ground.  Possible?

Think I might pin that as a quote on our bathroom wall at work….

Thank you for being.

One of the things I say to my clients about this is do not ask yourself if you will be good at it.Ask yourself if you will enjoy it?  We need more people who are bringing their whole selves to work…..not just showing up in body , but not in spirt, if you know what I mean.

thanks for reading and commenting, Michelle

Oh such wisdom Michelle, so do I! My favourite quote is 'Love and do what you like' by Saint Augustine and I try to bring that excitement to my students to encourage them to go for it (entrepreneurship)! We have to bring back the enjoyment into our work fulltime.

Kahlil Gibran has beautiful views on this as well. Here is a sample that I adore:

“Work is love made visible. And if you cannot work with love but only with distaste, it is better that you should leave your work and sit at the gate of the temple and take alms of those who work with joy.”

Have a great day! Sherri

YES!  We need to bring our whole souls to work, no matter how menial the task and if we cannnot do that, then we should find something else to DO.

Work is love made visible–you can see it in any labor of love, great art, writing, teaching, even websites.  You can tell who loves their work and comes from LOVE and those who are coming from somewhere else competely, even though they try to MASK it.  those who are awake, see right through to the TRUTH.

I so agree as well Michelle.  It is important to bring your whole self to the workplace.  I do find something interesting though.  I find that often people take a position and sabatoge themselves by actively seeking out perceived problems.  I understand that everything is a matter of perspective in all areas of living, however, I do see a great deal of “problem finding” as opposed to “joy seeking” in people in the workplace.  Doing what you love is the ULTIMATE goal and you are so generous to provide that much needed support, but is it not possible to seek out some satisfaction in any position?  If someone is abusive or cruel in the workplace….get outta there.  In most cases, I find that some people are generally dis-satisfied with whatever they do.  I could go on.  I won't.  I still believe that every situation has some joy attached to it….even if it is the joy of finding out that this (job) wasn't the way to go.  Kinda like Thomas Edison finding out countless ways not to create the lightbulb.

A starting place of finding a positive can only lead to more of the same on a grander scale.  What do you think?

Hi Cara! At the risk of being simplistic… you just said it: “Attitude is everything” There is an inertia which predominates most workplaces; I'm not of the view the employer has to bring you satisfaction. You choose to be in that place at some point! Combination of inertia and an entitlement attitude do lots to kill the working experience. I've said to many people, I don't see your employer standing with a gun to your head saying come here everyday!

On a macro scale, it is connected to people not stepping up to their potential, especially in their thinking. They have zoned out, on 'easy life' and not being required to do any more. When challenged [respectfully] at that level, I have seen tremendous turn-around…

Thanks for this reminder lol Sherri
